We highly recommend you to visit Devetashka Cave together with Krushun\u0430 Waterfalls<\/a>, which is similar to Prohodna Cave, but in our opinion is more beautiful. The vaults at the entrance of the cave are impressive. Devetashka cave was discovered in 1921. Its length is 2442 meters, and its area is 20,400 m\u00b2. In its highest part, Devetashka Cave is 60 meters high.<\/p>\n

As a natural landmark of national importance and a protected area it offers good living conditions – large size, lot of light, proximity to a river, the presence of a water spring, an area with forests and pastures, game and fertile soil. All this has attracted man since ancient times. The cave has been inhabited by man since the Paleolithic era \/ around 70,000 BC.<\/p>\n

About 50 meters inward from the entrance there is a vast hall with an area of 2400 m\u00b2. There are two paths inside the cave. One has a stream running through it and the other is dry and warm.<\/p>\n

In one of the halls of Devetashka cave during excavations by the Regional History Museum some of the most interesting remains from the Neolithic period on the Bulgarian lands were discovered, such as a bronze appliqu\u00e9 from 5th century BC.<\/p>\n

The cave is also known for its diversity of inhabitants: home to 12 reptile species, 82 species of birds, 34 species of mammals and 15 species of bats. More than 18 species of inhabitants are recorded in the Red Book of Bulgaria and more than 15 in the world red list. Devetashka Cave is of exceptional international importance as a bat habitat and is listed in the Agreement for the Conservation of European Bat Species.<\/p>\n

Since 2014, Devetashka cave is part of 100 national tourist sites of Bulgaria.<\/p>\n

Inside the cave there are traces of oil bunkers. The cave was used to store food products. It was a classified military site until the early 1990s.<\/p>\n

An interesting fact is that Sylvester Stallone’s Hollywood action movie was filmed there – The Invincibles 2 starring Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Jean Claude Van Damme, Bruce Willis, Dolph Lundgren and Jet Li was filmed in the Cave. The production made donation as they built big solid bridge above Osam river \u2013 an easy approach to Devetashka cave\u2019s entrance.<\/p>\n
