Numele s\u0103u tradus din latin\u0103 \u00eenseamn\u0103 \u201eOra\u0219ul Victoriei pe Dun\u0103re\u201d. A fost fondat\u0103 \u00een anul 102 de c\u0103tre \u00eemp\u0103ratul roman Traian \u00een cinstea victoriei sale asupra dacilor.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 3.35pt 0cm;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14.0pt; font-family: 'Neucha','serif'; color: #333333;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<strong><span style=\"font-family: 'Neucha','serif';\">Ora\u0219ul\u00a0<\/span><\/strong>este situat pe malul st\u00e2ng al r\u00e2ului Ro\u0219i\u021ba, care era principala sa surs\u0103 de ap\u0103. Chiar \u0219i ast\u0103zi se pot vedea drumurile p\u0103strate din ora\u0219, construite din blocuri uria\u0219e de piatr\u0103.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 3.35pt 0cm;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14.0pt; font-family: 'Neucha','serif'; color: #333333;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<strong><span style=\"font-family: 'Neucha','serif';\">Ora\u0219ul antic\u00a0<\/span><\/strong>avea un mic teatru numit \u201eodeon\u201d, o pia\u021b\u0103 central\u0103 a ora\u0219ului sau cunoscut\u0103 \u0219i sub denumirea de \u201eagora\u201d, o colonad\u0103 inelar\u0103, un consiliu municipal &#8211; \u201ebulevterion\u201d, o toalet\u0103 public\u0103 &#8211; \u201elatrina\u201d \u0219i o baie public\u0103 &#8211; \u201etermi&#8221; . Multe cl\u0103diri diferite cu nume exotice, tipice urbanismului antic.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 3.35pt 0cm;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14.0pt; font-family: 'Neucha','serif'; color: #333333;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Pia\u021ba ora\u0219ului (agora)\u00a0<strong><span style=\"font-family: 'Neucha','serif';\">Nikolopolis ad Istrum<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0este construit\u0103 la un nivel mai \u00eenalt dec\u00e2t alte drumuri din ora\u0219. Se putea ajunge doar pe jos.
