Park “Sveta Gora”

September 21, 2016, Sveta Gora Park was officially opened – the newest pride of the city of Veliko Tarnovo, known among the local population as the “Green Heart of the city”.

The park covers an area of ​​537 acres, including over 6 km of hiking and biking trails, attractions for skateboarding and cycling, picnic areas and gazebos for recreation, outdoor fitness equipment, pet park and many other entertainments.

Sveta Gora Park was built by HIT under the Regional Development Operational Program with allocated funds worth BGN 1.9 million. It is located on the eponymous hill of Mount Athos, which was a spiritual and literary center in the Middle Ages.

On the hill of Mount Athos was the monastery of the Holy Mother of God Hodegetria, where Patriarch Euthymius of Bulgaria founded the Tarnovo Literary School. It is estimated that there were about 16 monasteries along the entire hill.

During the Ottoman rule, Mount Sveta Gora was a place for recreation and entertainment, where fairs, fairs and many other events were organized.

Mount Athos Park is a great place to spend time with family and friends. It offers a variety of attractions and entertainment, as well as many places for rest and relaxation.

The park has an incredible panoramic viewing platform of over 120 square meters, which reveals breathtaking views of the fortresses Tsarevets and Trapezitsa, as well as the Old Town of Veliko Tarnovo.
